My fashion career started when, as a child, I chopped the ends off my father’s tie collection to create doll clothes. They were beautiful!
I didn’t know it then, but I would spend the next 30 years gathering the skills to design my own fashion line.
After apprenticing with a European tailor, I completed Dalhousie University’s Costume Studies course, and held an apprenticeship at the Banff Centre for the Arts. I worked as a pattern maker in a garment factory, co-created a beachwear boutique, and for many years freelanced as a costume maker for shows such as Mama Mia, Fosse, Tommy, Outrageous, and Napoleon.
While traveling in India in December of 2010 I was so inspired by the beautiful fabrics, I decided then and there to start a fashion label. I wanted my clothing to be interesting and versatile, easy to wear and beautifully fitted.
In March of 2011 Lois Laine was born.
