We came to Canada almost 17 years ago from Russia. I have a family – husband and son; I work as a Drafter, and I have a wonderful hobby – felting.
Why felting? It is a long traditional craft in my native Kazakhstan and Russia where I was born and raised. The people there continue to use felt in many interesting and creative ways. Working with wool is meditative. Wool is soft to the touch, flexible as clay and colourful as a rainbow. All these qualities of wool magically attract me to it.
I started doing felting in 2009; I took several workshops from Canadian and international feltmakers. With a time it became more than hobby – in 2010 I opened my Internet Etsy store; then I started participating in different Crafts and Arts shows.
In my projects I use 100% natural wool from different sheep breeds from all around the world. Some of my craftwork is displayed at Cambridge Centre for the Arts (Cambridge, ON).
