Noella Upitis

As a graduate of OCAD and the University of Guelph for Fine Arts and Psychology, I have been pursuing painting professionally for the last 12 years. I am a lifelong student of personal growth and transformation. In the process of learning about myself and others, the human psyche has begun to take the form of geometry – specifically iceberg shapes. Puzzle pieces observed above the waterline are a small section of the visible complexity of being human. The hidden parts of the unconscious mind lie below the surface. Joy, sorrow, elation and disappointment are small samples of experiences found beneath the surface, often unseen.

In this body of work, black symbolizes the unknown. Colour dominates in the form of fragmented pieces that I am beginning to unpack. Sometimes doors represent the opportunity to walk through to the unknown.

This is my journey. This is my story unfolding.
